Does anyone know if the New Yorker Hotel in New York is a good place to stay?

On Eighth Avenue between 34th and 35th Streets, the New Yorker is a famous hotel yet as far as creature comforts it's okay, not as elegant as the Wardolf or the Ritz. As far as neighborhood, Eighth Avenue is not that great. You have to be careful yet it's not truly dangerous.
