Why are there 10 numerical digits?

Have a look at the fingers on our hands... But yes we have a base 10 system while some other civs do not. There really is nothing special about having a base 10 system. In fact one can always convert a base 10 system into a base n system where n is any natural number (of course if you need n>10 then you need to find new symbols).
