Dating Patterns: Subconscious Or Not?

Do you believe that people usually date the same type of person subconsciously (as in same personality, characteristics, etc.) or not? For instance, if someone constantly dates interracially? Will they continue to or not? Or is it just up to chance? I hope my question made sense...thanks a lot everyone!
